A major 6.4 earthquake hit Honshu, Japan on Sunday, May 20, 2012, at 07:19:55 UTC, at a depth of 10 km (6.2 mi).  This is the fifth major (>5.9) earthquake to hit in the last six days.   

Throughout history, there have never been as many major earthquakes with such frequency on record, as we have seen within the last year and a-half.
